The Social Security Administration (SSA) is updating the login process for all online services, including your personal my Social Security account. These changes are designed to make signing in easier and more secure, aligning with government-wide standards for online authentication and ensuring the continued safety of your personal information when you access Ssa Online Services.
If you currently use a username and password created before September 18, 2021, to access your my Social Security account, please be aware that this option will soon be discontinued.
In the near future, accessing your my Social Security account and other SSA online services will require an account with one of our approved Credential Service Providers (CSPs): Login.gov or ID.me.
For more detailed information, please refer to our official press release. If you already have a Login.gov or ID.me account, no new account creation is necessary. If you are already accessing your my Social Security account through Login.gov or ID.me, no further action is needed at this time.
Transitioning to Login.gov for SSA Online Access
To ensure uninterrupted access to Social Security’s online services, we recommend transitioning your account now using your existing Social Security username and password. Our simple online instructions will guide you through the process of creating a new Login.gov account. Once you have successfully linked your my Social Security account with your new Login.gov account, you will receive an immediate confirmation and gain instant access to all our online services using your new Login.gov credentials. Moving forward, Login.gov will be your sole sign-in method for your account, replacing your previous Social Security username.
Login.gov provides comprehensive 24/7 customer support via phone and chat to assist you with any questions or issues during this transition.
We strongly encourage you to switch to Login.gov or ID.me as soon as possible, well before the current username option is phased out later this year, to avoid any potential delays in accessing your SSA online services.
You can find more detailed instructions and helpful information on our dedicated help page.
Please help us spread the word about these important changes by sharing this information with your family, friends, and colleagues who may also use SSA online services.
