The Social Security Administration (SSA) is now accepting wage reports for Tax Year 2024, marking the start of another crucial reporting period for businesses across the nation. It’s essential for employers and third-party filers to remember the deadline: January 31, 2025, by which all Tax Year 2024 wage reports must be submitted to the SSA. Accurate and timely wage reporting is vital for maintaining the integrity of Social Security records and ensuring employees receive proper credit for their earnings.
The SSA acknowledges and appreciates the ongoing dedication of employers and third-party filers in upholding the accuracy standards of wage reporting.
Important Updates for Electronic Wage Reporting
Zenwork Resumes Electronic Wage Report Submissions
There’s a significant update for those who utilize Zenwork for submitting W-2 reports. The SSA has resumed accepting electronic wage reports from Zenwork. This resumption comes as a result of collaborative efforts between SSA and Zenwork to strengthen technical cooperation and proactively address the risk of third-party W-2 fraud. Currently, businesses and individuals can confidently submit wage and tax statements on Form W-2 for tax year 2024 through Zenwork. This update effectively supersedes the previous communication sent to Zenwork customers on December 5, 2024.
New Security Measures for Business Services Online (BSO)
Enhanced Security Protocol for BSO Access
For businesses that directly submit W-2s to the SSA, it’s critical to be aware of a significant change in accessing Business Services Online (BSO). The traditional BSO User ID and password login method has been discontinued for employer services. To access BSO employer services, you are now required to use a secure Social Security online account, or Login.gov or ID.me credentials.
To begin, navigate to the BSO Welcome page. From the “Employers” section, you can either log in with your existing credentials or create a new account if needed.
Elevated Security for Key BSO Services
Heightened security measures are now mandatory to access the following essential BSO employer services:
- Uploading wage files
- Online W-2/W-2C filing
- AccuWage online service
- Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS)
- Viewing wage report name/SSN errors
Access to these services will be restricted without the addition of this extra layer of security to your account.
Transitioning to New Login Methods
It’s important to note that Social Security usernames will soon be phased out entirely for BSO login. 移行 to either a Login.gov or ID.me account is now necessary. When logging in with your Social Security username, you will be prompted to create a Login.gov account.
Proactive Account Transition Recommended
It is strongly recommended to sign in and transition your account as soon as possible. The process is quick and straightforward, taking only a few minutes. If you already possess a Login.gov or ID.me account, no further action is required; you can use your existing credentials.
