Mike Tyson Being Sued by Online Casino Operator Over Sponsorship Deal

Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is facing a lawsuit in the United Kingdom from an online casino operator. The lawsuit, filed by Medier, the company behind the Rabona online casino, alleges that Tyson breached a sponsorship agreement after signing a deal to fight Jake Paul. This legal battle adds another layer of complexity to Tyson’s already highly anticipated return to the boxing ring.

According to court documents filed in London’s High Court, Medier is seeking $1.59 million in damages. They claim that Tyson and his company, Tyrannic, entered into a promotional agreement in January to endorse Rabona. However, this agreement was allegedly terminated by Tyson in March, coinciding with the announcement of his fight against Jake Paul. The original date for the Tyson vs. Paul bout was set for July 20 but was later postponed to November 15 due to a health issue experienced by Tyson, where Paul ultimately secured a unanimous decision victory.

Tyson’s representatives reportedly stated that the termination was due to Medier breaching the terms of their agreement. However, Medier’s legal team refutes this claim, asserting that the real reason behind the termination was Tyson’s lucrative sponsorship deal with Netflix for the Jake Paul fight. The lawsuit documents reportedly state that “The true reason for Mr. Tyson and Tyrannic’s hasty and unlawful termination was because Mr. Tyson had agreed to a deal, sponsored by Netflix, to fight the influencer Jake Paul.”

In response to the lawsuit, Tyson’s legal team has expressed confidence that the court will rule in their favor. They maintain that Medier violated the terms of the agreement by overstepping the boundaries of the licensed promotion, causing “financial and reputational damage” to Tyson and his company. They insist that the termination was justified and legally sound.
