GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 7, 2024 — Meijer, a leading Midwest retailer, is enhancing its commitment to food accessibility by now accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for purchases made through its Meijer app. This significant update provides a more convenient and flexible Meijer Online Shopping experience for customers utilizing SNAP, enabling them to purchase fresh groceries, essential pantry items, and more with their Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards directly within the app.

This new feature, launched across all Meijer stores in the Midwest, allows SNAP participants to seamlessly use their EBT cards to pay for Meijer online shopping orders placed via the app. This expansion arrives at an opportune time, as Midwest families with school-aged children are set to receive $40 per child each month in summer EBT benefits, further supporting their access to nutritious groceries during the summer months. By integrating SNAP payments into the Meijer app, the retailer is breaking down barriers and ensuring that more families can access healthy and affordable food options through Meijer online shopping.
“At Meijer, we are deeply committed to serving families throughout the Midwest,” stated Calli Schmid, Vice President of Grocery for Meijer. “Accepting SNAP benefits on the Meijer app is a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to enhance Meijer online shopping accessibility. It empowers SNAP participants with greater choice and ease when shopping for the groceries they need, helping them to provide nutritious meals for their families.” This initiative underscores Meijer’s dedication to making Meijer online shopping a truly inclusive experience for all customers, regardless of their payment method.
Meijer has consistently demonstrated its commitment to supporting SNAP participants through various initiatives. Earlier this year, in April, Meijer doubled its discount on select milk products, offering a significant 40 percent reduction on all brands and sizes of 1 percent and fat-free milk. Building on this, Meijer was selected as the largest and একমাত্র retailer in its six-state operational area to participate in the Healthy Fluid Milk Incentives (HFMI) projects. This program, established by the 2018 Farm Bill and facilitated through a grant from Auburn University’s Hunger Solutions Institute via the “Add Milk” initiative, further incentivizes SNAP participants to include milk – a vital component of a healthy diet – in their Meijer online shopping purchases.
Beyond milk incentives, Meijer provides additional savings and access for SNAP customers:
- Continued Produce Discounts: Meijer continues to offer a 10 percent discount on SNAP-eligible produce purchases, made possible by a waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture granted in 2022. This ensures that Meijer online shopping includes affordable access to fresh fruits and vegetables for SNAP users.
- Free Home Delivery: Since November 2022, Meijer has offered free home delivery for Meijer online shopping orders to further improve access to healthy foods for SNAP participants. This eliminates transportation barriers and makes Meijer online shopping even more convenient. Meijer also began accepting SNAP benefits for both Pickup and Home Delivery orders placed on Meijer.com in 2022.
- Flashfood Partnership: In 2023, Meijer broke ground as the first retailer nationwide to accept SNAP benefits through the Flashfood app. This innovative partnership allows customers to purchase surplus, close-dated food at substantial discounts, further stretching SNAP budgets and reducing food waste through Meijer online shopping and in-store options.
With the integration of SNAP payments into the Meijer app, customers can now utilize their benefits to purchase from over 100,000 items available through Meijer online shopping. This includes a wide selection of fresh produce, quality meats, dairy products, and essential pantry staples, all accessible via their EBT card, either digitally within the app or when shopping in-store. The Meijer app is readily available for free download on both iOS and Android platforms through the App Store and Google Play. SNAP customers can easily link their EBT card to their Meijer account either online or by visiting any Meijer Customer Service desk. Once linked, the EBT card becomes a seamless payment option within the app, allowing customers to choose from a variety of convenient delivery and pickup options for their Meijer online shopping needs.
