Discover Untamed Spirit: BLM Online Corral and Wild Horse Adoption Events in Montana

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Montana/Dakotas is excited to announce a series of events at the Hamilton Training Center in July, headlined by the Wild Horse Online Corral Adoption Event running from July 8-15. This initiative offers a unique opportunity to adopt one of approximately 36 untrained wild horses. Adoption fees start at a minimum of $125. This July offers multiple avenues to connect with and adopt these magnificent animals.

Explore Wild Horse Adoption: Public Viewing and Online Corral

For those interested in seeing the available horses before participating in the Blm Online Corral, a public viewing event is scheduled for July 12th, from 4-7 p.m. at the Hamilton Training Center (736 Alvista Loop, Hamilton, Montana). This provides a chance to meet the horses in person and learn more about the adoption process before the online bidding begins.

The blm online corral adoption event itself takes place online from July 8-15. This virtual platform allows potential adopters from across the country to bid on and adopt a wild horse. Details on how to participate in the blm online corral and view the available horses can be found on the BLM website.

Hands-On Learning: Free Gentling Clinics with Mustang Matt

Enhancing the adoption experience, the BLM is offering two free “First Touch Gentling Clinics” led by renowned Mustang Matt. These clinics provide valuable insights and techniques for starting the gentling process with newly adopted wild horses.

The first clinic will be held on July 13th, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and a second session will take place on July 26th, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., both at the Hamilton Training Center. These free clinics are a fantastic resource for new adopters to gain confidence and skills in working with their wild horses.

Hamilton Training Center Adoption Event and Local Pick-Up

For those preferring a traditional adoption setting, the Hamilton Training Center will also host an in-person adoption event on July 26th, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. This event offers a limited number of horses available for adoption on a first-come, first-served basis.

Furthermore, July 26th, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., is also designated as the local pick-up day for animals adopted through the blm online corral event that concluded on July 15th. Adopters who successfully bid online can collect their horses from the Hamilton Training Center on this day.

Make a Difference: Adopt a Wild Horse

The wild horses available for adoption through the blm online corral and these events have been gathered from overpopulated herds on Western public rangelands. By adopting a wild horse, you’re not only gaining a remarkable companion but also contributing to the BLM’s crucial efforts in managing wild horse populations and ensuring the health of public lands. The BLM even offers up to $1,000 to incentivize the adoption of these untrained animals, recognizing the commitment and care involved in providing them with good homes.

Brittany Jones, BLM Montana/Dakotas Communications Chief, shares her personal experience: “Adopting a wild horse is one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had. By opening your heart to a wild horse, you embark on a remarkable journey of companionship, trust, and the opportunity to make a positive difference in their lives.”
